Judge My Forty Something Style: Outfit

Dressing up and styling clothes is not complicated or is it? Do you ever feel like Alice in Wonderland falling down the rabbit hole when it comes to picking out outfits and looking your best? Well, I do, and it gets a little overwhelming when you are over the hill in your forties. Let's face it I may be a bit dusty, but I do not want to dress as though I am the first lady of the Tabernacle Church in Alabama. Yall I hope this place does not exist. :)

Well, I do, and it gets a little overwhelming when you are over the hill in your forties. When I was a kid in the South part of Louisiana, we never left the house as girls without wearing tights, stockings or baby doll socks with every outfit. We were trained at an early age to wear our dresses long, and our pants lose. No booty showing at all oh and no arms or shoulders either.. Yep, those were the days.

But let's face it times have changed, according to the clothing that I see on the racks of stores and the cute clothes that are flaunted around on social media.

Nonetheless, when it comes to shopping for age-appropriate items, I feel as if all the clothes are smashed up in the teen, and young adult section.

Oh and let's talk about the glamorous style that only the Instagrammers seem to rip the runway wearing. I can never find any of those items in the store. And speaking of store shopping, it has become a chore I hate doing. I know I may sound petty, but I want a little style for work, going out and socializing with friends.
Image:I love playing around with vibrate colors, so I've been frolicking around with a few pieces that are out of my ordinary routine. When I was in my twenties, it was easy to grab a ten dollar outfit and roll with it. Add a few accessories, and I felt fly and sassy.

Nowadays I need to think my stuff out and be intentional with my outfits. I am not trying to dress like a tween or something, but hey I want style, cuteness, and comfort all in one fit.

That brings me to the core of this whole story. Do a woman of a certain age have to dress a particular way to fit in the mold of society?
I say absolutely no way. When I got off social media, and I took a look around me. I started watching other women.
You know the everyday working woman, family, and friends. I found the practical reality of it all. Most people don't care about the latest trends or the hottest pair of pants on the market. I've based that off working and traveling around. Sometimes I  sit in a store parking lot and watch everyday women go in and out. Life is fast paced for the most of us and in the real world who is dressing to the nines to shop for weekly groceries.

I find we want accessibility to what is stylish and affordable. And as I age, I want to have fun with my clothing and without judgment. I know I am old but honey I am not dead yet and I am in the midst of celebrating every inch of midlife.

My style is always changing, and I am for one having fun with it. Now and then I love a little kickback from other people.

In other words, I wore an orange off the shoulder dress. Not sure if it was age-friendly but I like it. I paired it with open-toed Tom's shoes and a girly orange Nicole Lee handbag. I only wore earrings and a small bracelet. Because it was late in the evening, I wore a pair of slightly tinted yellow glasses.

The occasion was for my outfit was a late date night. So I feel it was appropriate to wear for a laid-back night of eating burgers and cheesecake sort of night.  What do you think, would you wear an orange outfit for date night? Is it befitting for a forty-something woman? What would you change about the whole look?

Until Next Time See Ya In A Bit!
