Making Room For New Boots And Why It Is Hard To Toss Out The Old Ones!

The Broken Heel Truth

Oh wow, I hate to admit this but I am a shoe hoarder, and I will wear my favorite pair of shoes until the heel comes off..literally!
The other day I was in my closet clearing out my old boots, and I almost couldn't get rid of any because I've had such great attachment to each one. Besides I hate throwing shoes or handbags away, I may have a slight fetish to not letting old, beat up and torn things go that needs a little attention.

The funny thing is I toss out and give away old clothing all the time. But when it comes to my footwear, I am biased, and I find ten reasons why the rugged look and broken heel on my shoes still look good.

I've collected a lot of shoes over the years but since we are in the midst of the Fall season. I have decided to pull out each one of my booties so I can do a full check on the heels, and fabric of the shoe.

It took me two hours to come to grips I needed to toss out one pair that was ready to be buried in shoe heaven. The funny thing is I wanted to throw the almost new looking ones away but keep the dirty, damaged ones. They are my favorite, and by looking at the pictures above, I should be downright ashamed of myself.

I love a good witch looking shoe, and they are so hard to find. So, when I saw the black pair listed in the picture above at Target two years ago, I had to grab them. I wore them with everything as if I had no other shoes in my closet. But as I am decluttering things in my life, I can see it is time for me to divorce these boots and make room for new ones. It was so hard to do, but I did take them out the trash three times before I finally gave my husband permission to take them to the dumpster.

Moving forward with tears in my eyes, I decided to check all the other shoes I have barely worn. Yep, some of them were in excellent condition, but I was still looking for an excuse to throw them away. But after reviewing the bottoms and the sides, I saw they were wearable.

I found one pair with mild scratches but nothing that I couldn't polish away. I know I may be being a bit dramatic, but it is hard letting go of my things. Even when I know, I am making room for more shoes to slide into my closet. Is it hard for you to let go of personal things?

The best part about my clear out is I only had one pair of boots that needed to be tossed out. I am still assessing a few that I may be giving to donations because they don't fit my style anymore.

Tips For Letting Go Of Old Shoes: Although it was hard for me I can share what I learned in the process.
  • Broken or Busted Up Heels
  • Missing Fabric or Deep Patches On The Shoe
  • Too Small
  • Too Big
  • You Never Wear Them
  • Change In Your Style, No Longer Fit Your Look

After doing all those things above, I am now ready to do a little boot shopping because I made a little bit of room in my closet.

In conclusion: Going through my shoes was very relaxing and therapeutic for me. I was feeling overwhelmed every time I went into my closet. Due to the fact, I had shoes, and I wasn't wearing.  And  I had ones I needed to toss out or give away. I now know it was because my closet was clustered and I needed to straighten it out asap. By doing so, it gave me a sense of calm and the feeling of organization. And now I have a beautiful, peaceful space to look at until we move.

Last but not least, most of the shoes in this post came from Target, TJMAX, LULUS, and Catos.

There you have another shoe clearout and haul.

Which ones would you keep or toss out?

    1. I know right. I am the same. But it was time to throw those babies out. I will be getting new ones. Knowing me I will repurchase the same ones if I see them:
