Between The Pages Of Joy: Finding It In Everyday Life

Image : Woman holding ice cream telling a story about Joy. If I were a book, I would want to be between the pages of joy. With so much going on in life right now it is impossible for most people to wake up joyful every day. I decided to look up the word, and its true meaning blew me away. A lot of the times when I am not feeling happy or joyous, its because I am pondering on something that I can not control.
Joy- A Feeling Of Great Pleasure And Happiness

If I were a book, I would want to be between the pages of joy. With so much going on in life right now it is impossible for most people to wake up joyful every day. I decided to look up the word, and its true meaning blew me away. A lot of the times when I am not feeling happy or joyous, its because I am pondering on something that I can not control.

Over the last few years, I've honestly been keeping notes and journaling my midlife experiences. One thing I have come to realize my life is not all that bad. Since keeping records of my journey and taking a lot of pictures, I can see my life as if it was a book.

Yes, I am guilty of not looking at the small things that bring me the most happiness, because I am always pushing and striving for something bigger.
Side Note: It's ok to not be ok, but it's not ok to never become ok.

I know that sounds like a mouth full but reread it and think about it for a minute.
That is what I am doing daily. At one point in my life, I thought my mistakes outweighed the best parts of me being a mom, wife, friend and business owner.
I soon discovered late in my life that each page and chapter of my being was where I was supposed to be. No matter I do not like where I started I now know its where the story will end. The fact is I do not want the ink of my pages to dry within the opposite of joy. The opposite of joy is misery, despair, trial, and tribulation. No way who wants to have that?

So, to keep it light and airy I wanted to share bits and pieces of the way I keep a journal. I use nothing fancy just a notebook, pen or school size tablet. I keep account of the small, medium or big size things that happen in my life.

A Few Examples To Doing This Joy Thing Every Day

Plans Or No Plans: Sometimes I can not go out and do stuff, and that is cool. But, when I can have a movie night in with the family, I am just as happy as if we went out. Since I am the planner of our home, I find so much happiness when I can find film tickets to our favorite theatre to watch movies. You know why this is on my list. Because before I was married, there was a time when I couldn't afford a simple movie night. That was a milestone in my life, and now I can celebrate it. It seems simple, but every little thing that happens in life needs to be celebrated and checked off as something that brings joy. Hi
Image: Woman taking time out to find joy. Time: I will forever tell my family, friends, and coworkers to schedule in a little time. It is vital to our well being and as human beings to have a moment that is all about me, myself and I. Yes, I said that who is going to take care of me when I am tired, broken and sad? In other words, take the time out that is necessary to keep your cup of joy filled to the brim. So, if that means waking up early and getting my day started before family, then that is what I will do. I notice my happy jar stays filled when I do meditation and get dressed early a priority. As I am getting older, I do not sacrifice time anymore, because every minute is vital to my course of aging gracefully.

Money Well Spent: I no longer waste money on things that have no value to me or my family. What I am about to say may sound crazy, but I saved a lot of money this week on things we needed that I found on sale. And all this week I've been telling everybody I know because it sounds simple, but for some reason, I got great joy out of saving a few dollars this month. Remember, things in life do not have to be big to be enjoyable. That is a lesson that took me too many years to learn. #lessonslearned

Gifted And New Hobbies: I am big on doing a side hustle, you know that thing we all love doing. From making jewelry to knitting socks or just playing golf. Oh, how I love making stuff, but I was looking at my gift in the wrong manner. I thought I was making earrings and necklaces out of boredom not realizing it gave me great pleasure and I love doing it. Looking back at my talents I wasted time not harness in on the things that God had already put inside of me. But I do have a clear understanding that it is never too late to start working on your talents. Now I know that is a great thing to add to the pages of my joy. What do you need to add to your creativity that will bring that feeling of JOY?

Oh That Family Time: If you want to smile more pay attention to the way children are in this world. For the most part, kids are not worried about bills or food because they know we as the parents got them covered. Sometimes I have to laugh when I see my kids smile or make memes about their dad and me. That means I have done what it takes to keep them smiling no matter what is going on in life. The best part about life is basking in the happy moments and even if your child finds it funny to post pictures of you with bunny ears on Facebook.

His And Her Time: I am all smiles at this moment in life. I said in a past post I just celebrated 16 years of marriage. And I am so thankful to God because I made it with one man in my life. The way I once lived my life and my track record I just knew there was no one to love me. But through prayer and changing my life around, I met my KING, and I am thrilled about being a married woman. So, his and her time is valuable, and we make it a weekly thing to do with each other. So, you know I have to add this part of my happy life to the pages of my notebook.

Self-care Is Not Selfish: Finally, I am learning so much about myself and how to take care of myself as I age along the way. It feels good to be taking better care of me, my mind, and my body spiritually. Honestly, life can be brutal, and I want to come home and find peace love and harmony.

But at the end of the day no matter what happens when I get up in the morning. I realize I am the captain of my Joy and I am responsible how my ship will sail on into my glory years.

In Conclusion: I will forever have a page that is dedicated to the things that bring me the most Joy.

How do you celebrate small things in your life?

  1. I celebrate the small things in life by taking it easy, giving myself the alone time I need and spending time with my family!!!

  2. I celebrate life by thanking God every chance that I get! Knowing that each day isn't promise to any of us, it makes it a bit more easier to treasure the smaller moments.....
