The Weird Things No One Told Me About Being Forty-Something: My Crazy Tips!
A little of life in bits

There is nothing new under or around the sun. So, it is of no surprise I never knew about the weird things that come along with being forty-something. Where is the guide book to getting this aging thing, right? You know, shouldn't I have it all together in every area of my life by now. Ha! I can't even stop crying long enough to realize it's ok to be 40 something.

Ok, I get it; the world is not coming to an end because I am in the middle of life. But, I still can't get used to all the weird things that are happening in the middle of my life. Is there anyone out there in the interweb that can relate?
The funny thing about life is at every stage in life; there will be changes. I missed and messed up a lot of my younger years. So, for once, I am here to embrace the good, bad, and the weird of being forty-something.
I guess I will share a few of the things that have been going through and the crazy tips that have helped me make it through.

Number 1: With age, the body changes. Lord knows mines have gone through its share of ups and downs. .And when it does, make changes if you want. But, no matter what happens, love all the stages that your body goes through.

Number 2: I never knew I would become such a sweet mouth at this age. This may sound a bit weird, but every night I have myself a piece of pie, cake, and /or ice-cream. My tip for doing so is I do not count any calories. And I stop beating myself up for doing so. I walk three times a week for mind stimulation. So, I am over trying to lose weight, but if it happens while walking, I will take it. In the meantime, I really do find happiness when I can enjoy my favorite sweets, guilt-free.

Number 3: No one told me my style would change five hundred times. For the first time in my life, my size is not an issue. But, finding that balance between personal and downright having a weird style has become very challenging. My tip to style: Is try as many as you desire. And remember, clothes do not make the person. You as the person makes the clothes. So, I say dress wild and go all out or dress modest, knowing you are wearing what you want to wear.

Number 4: Speaking of eating. When I was a kid, my mom served dinner no later than 7:30 pm. And by 9 p.m, the kitchen was shut down for the night. My mom cooked a full dinner at least five times a week. I could always expect to have fried chicken, smothered liver with rice, gravy, sweet potatoes, greens, and cast iron skillet cornbread. Those were the good ole' days. But, now there are times I do not cook anything at all. I know someone is going to find this to be very weird. But, I love eating a big bowl of cereal before bed, and it doesn't matter what kind it is.
My biggest tip when it comes to eating dinner is: Do not beat yourself up when you can not cook and eat a balanced meal. It's ok to eat a weird meal even if its a box of your favorite cereals.

Number 5: No one told me having a hobby in the middle of life would be a game-changer. Yes, doing something outside of my real day job has given me another purpose in life. I love making jewelry, such as earrings and finger rings. Honestly, that's my jam, and I may sell them one day real soon.

My tip to living a good life in the middle is to have a craft or hobby that brings joy and happiness when no one else is around. Sidenote: Hobbies can be anything: fishing, relaxing, lounging, helping others, or just going to a domino game. LOL! Hobbies are not limited to doing crafts and knitting.

But, those are the weird things I never knew about getting a wee bit older.

Number 6: Last, but not least: Nurturing my marriage / or relationship is just as important as being a mom to my kids. I will be the first to admit I get busy with work and then being a mommy to my daughters. That sometimes, my love life takes a back seat when it comes to quality time. It is not done on purpose, but I am a creature of habit. I do the same thing every day, so on date night, I prefer to stay in. No joke. :)

But, lately, I have been making time for my husband and some friends. When it comes to friendships, I can't always hit the streets, but I've been calling my girlfriends a lot more.

In conclusion: I am learning life is weird as I get older, but I know I got this. It's ok for me to change the way I do things in this life and on this journey through midlife. It's scary at times, but it's a new space in time. And it's one that I have to get used to. Life is to short not to be enjoying all the good, bad, and the weird things that come along with age.

What's the weirdest thing that has happened to you at any age?
