A Brunch Diary: What I Ate That  Made Me Happy + Good Food, And Laughing With Loved Ones

Hey, guys, I must share some of my favorite brunch eats right from this week's diary.
Who else associates good food with happiness? I know I do, and I must confess I can not get enough of eating good food, laughing with loved ones, and trying new things.

It's no secret I come from a long line of good ole' soul food eaters. Girl, I am from the country; we ate everything except tree bark soup. And I know if my big momma knew how to make that she would have. I can imagine she would have piled it sky high with gator meat, shrimp, and andouille sausage. I know that almost sounds like gumbo, but yall that is how we ate as youngins down south of Louisiana.

Let me pause for a moment. If you do not know how to make gumbo. Just remember it is everything in a bowl except the kitchen sink.

Now, listen here, that is my secret, don't be telling everybody. lol jk

It is so easy to make, and I know your family will love a good taste of  Nawlins.

Anyhoo, back to my brunch diaries and all the foods that made me happy. I must be honest living in Texas, everybody I meet brunch. Honestly, I tried to resist the urge, but my clients are always bringing me something. Sometimes I go on a brunch date with family, friends, or just by myself.

Having Frappe In Downtown McKinney Texas Cafe

It has become a tradition to meet my oldest daughter  Shacarey Martin for our weekly coffee and brunch date.
I am usually a frappe kinda gal. But, my daughter has gotten me into the fancy hot cappuccino drinks.
So, we meet once or twice a week to sit down and talk while drinking our specialty drinks. I used to make up excuses on why I did not want to go and sip coffees with cinnamon and froth on top. Until I realized it was those moments that we laughed and gossiped about fun times.

The coffee shop close to my job was just an escape for us to hang out and enjoy a few jokes.
Who knew I would be sitting down having small talk and coffee with my kiddos.

Having Brunch : Chicken and Waffles with whip cream and bananas
One of my absolute favorite things that I have had this week is the same ole' chicken and waffles. Chicken, pancakes, and waffles were also a big staple of eating from my childhood. Long before Roscoes and Waffles came along. My mom cooked deep-fried chicken and some type of bread that was piled high with toppings for us to enjoy as kids.

Although growing up, I think we had the best food. I can settle for the countryside food tables that do cater to my taste buds when I want something sweet and salty.
If you look closely at the picture above: you can see a thick waffle, topped with bananas, with a sizeable crispy chicken breast, and topped with whip cream. Now, that is a brunch basket that made me the happiest.

Oatmeal topped with strawberries, granola, bananas, blueberries and honey. Served with a caramel coffee drinks

Last but not least, sometimes I can go for a large bowl of thick oats. Of course, I can fix this at home, but it is my go-to when I am on a brunch date with clients or co-workers.

My favorite is maple oatmeal topped with strawberries, blueberries, granola, and lots of sugar cane honey.
And of course a tall hot caramel frappe with whip and nutmeg.

And those are a few foods that made me happy this week.

Trying a new goat cheese ice cream
Oh, and although it is freezing outside, I tried new goat cheese and blueberry custard ice-cream. I must admit it was quite flavorful, and I would try it again in the future. I guess I can say I tried something a wee bit different than my usual sweets and eats.

Inconclusion: I love food because it is the one thing that can bring multiple people together for good eating and lots of laughter.  Ha! so why not make it fun. That is my story, and I am sticking to it.

How do you enjoy your brunch dates?

Until Next Time See Ya In A Bit!
