The Kitchen Was A Mess But I Made It!

Baking pies and having coffee in snowman cup. This is it the last day of my kitchen being a hot mess on the 25th. Although it was a day filled with laughs and lots of food, I am so glad to see it gone with the wind. LOL, No, I am not. I am happier about the New Year, which is about to peek its head in 2020 real soon. So, I hope you all had the best day ever at Christmas with your loved ones.

LOL, No, I am not. I am happier about the New Year, which is about to peek its head in 2020 real soon. So, I hope you all had the best day ever at Christmas with your loved ones.
Nonetheless, I just popped onto the blog to share a few bits from my yesterday with you guys.
Hanging snowman coffee cup over Christmas gifts. I spent weeks, days, and hours with my husband connecting and putting toys together for my youngest Moriah. Yes, I am one exhausted momma, to say the least. But, it was all so worth it to see every smile that came through our home.

Having coffee while family opens Christmas gifts. But there was no way I was going to make it without a large cup of coffee in both of my hands. Ha! I think I may have gone through a whole pot of Folgers all by myself.

Girls opening wind song and exclamation perfumes for Christmas. Although we pass out cash to the oldest girls, I still always go and buy things for them. I love to see their smiles when I come up with the best gift ideas

But all in all, we had so much fun as a family at Christmas this year.

Opening up more Fire Amazon HD tablets on Christmas 2019
Trust me, the noise levels were at a high 100 in our home with the opening gifts and Xmas chatter. But that is what life is all about, creating memories.

I have to admit my laughs came straight from my kitchen. Because I was in there doing a complete mess cooking and slamming pots to finish dinner. But, guys, it was so worth it when I finished. I used to be in the kitchen for days and hours when I cooked my childhood foods. You know stuff like cornbread dressing, pulled greens, ham, smothered chicken, roast, yellow rice, yams, cakes, pies, mac, and cheese. Yes, back in the day, I went hard as a mom in the kitchen.
Having a seafood boil for Christmas 2019 : Prepping to cook dinner
Over the last few years, the family and I have been re-directing the meaning of our holidays. Basically, setting our own traditions that do not require us to feel exhausted and over-worked shopping, cooking, and cleaning. By all means, Christmas is that one day most people get to have off work to relax and enjoy doing absolutely nothing. For my last few holidays, we've had ourselves a real seafood boil right at home. That's right, we country folk and we love to eat a big ole' feast.
Having a seafood boil for the Holidays. We will be serving fried catfish, lobster, boiled corn, eggs, and peeled shrimp
Since I wanted everything to be cooked fresh, I never start-up in my kitchen until the day of eating everything, especially seafood. But, boy oh boy, how I wish I could pre-prep everything. It was so much fun being in the kitchen chatting with Rico and the girls while frying spicy catfish. My menu was easy this go around, we had fish, sweet butter corn, boiled eggs, lobster, cucumbers, and loads of seasoned peel and eat shrimp with potatoes.

This has been our second year having an all you can eat seafood boil. It is a bit messy, but nothing beats when my family gathered at the bar so we can smack and make jokes about one another while cracking lobster tails. I must admit, as a mom, after 48 years, I am finally enjoying this day we call Christmas. I guess it because I have adjusted my life and terms to live out loud by any means necessary. It is a great feeling when you make up your own rules to live by and enjoy.
Baking lemon cake and sweet pies for Christmas 2019
Although my kitchen was a mess, I couldn't let my fam down without baking their favorite lemon cream cheesecake and homemade sweet potato pies.  In which both of these deserts have become our Sunday tradition as well.

Bought Blue Bell Mardi Gras King Cake Ice-Cream- Oh, and I must share my new favorite ice-cream at the moment. My husband finally got his hands on a half-gallon of Blue Bell Mardi Gras King Cake ice-cream. Yes, I was super excited to see he bought us two tubs of it. I'm not sure if one is all his or for the whole family. LOL, either way, my bowl was filled to the brim with a slice of cake

There you have it, our crazy family holiday in a nutshell.
Ended the evening in a bearly awake pajama set from Wal-Mart. It was a Christmas gift from my family
Although my kitchen was a mess, I felt confident as a mom and wife when I took off my apron. And gave the dish towels to my daughters and the broom to my husband (RICO). Then I took another shower and put on a fresh house gown that read on the front Bearly Awake. Then I went to my room, propped my feet up, and watched three episodes of Chicago PD on FX.

Inconclusion: Christmas is gone, but I must admit I did exactly what I wanted on my one day off. Spending time with my family was my ultimate goal, and I accomplished that without being overwhelmed. It has taken me many years to realize holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries are only days, and they all should be enjoyed stress-free and with good measure.

My household has changed the narrative the way we do things now, and I must admit it has bought us such joy. The holidays used to wear me out, trying to be everything to everybody and nothing to myself. Now that I am older, I can happier not being the one putting all the parties together to host a crowd of people. I loath for those days I know God has given us all to rest and be at peace.

I got a chance to make all my calls and Merry Christmas's to friends and family right from my kitchen. And surprisingly, most people I know we're doing the same thing my family was doing, relaxing. #gooddays
A Christmas letter from my daughter Moriah . Merry Christmas 2019
Last but not least, I received a lot of material things (such as gifts from my family). But, nothing warmed my heart more than what my baby Moriah wrote to her dad and me. That is all I will share, but just know she got all the hugs and kisses from all the family. Won't God show you how good He really is? And I am so thankful for moments like this, and it means more to me than any gift I got to receive. Somebody, please bring me some tissue, because I am having a mommy moment. #allJOY
It's finally my season, and I am going to enjoy every inch of it.

Hands down, this has to be my best Holiday ever, and I know it will only get better. I think next year we will be in Arizona by then. I can't wait to spill the beans, but new things are happening for my family and me.

I hope and pray you all had a wonderful Christmas that was filled with nothing but Bliss.

How was your Christmas 2019?

I am so thankful we all can actually sound off on the day and move full speed ahead with what's coming new in 2020.

Until Next Time See Ya In A Bit!
