My Mother's Day Gifts Were Secondhand: Nothing Over 3 Dollars!

My Mother's Day Gifts Were Secondhand: Nothing Over 3 Dollars!
My Mother's Day Gifts Were Secondhand: Nothing Over 3 Dollars!
My Mother's Day gifts were all gently used items. Who does that? Well, I must admit my family never cease to amaze me. Ha! Wait until you see what 3 whole dollars got me for Mommy's Day.  I am still shook. :)

I told my family not to buy me anything for Mother's Day. Only because most of the stores are still filled with winter stuff, and my goal was to relax and chill this holiday. Ha! As if I had a lot of choices to catch a plane to the Hamptons. But leave it up to my family to come up with something I never saw coming from those sneaky little devils. I think it was the best plan ever.
While I was in the kitchen cooking roast, gravy, honey ham, mustard greens, cornbread, sweet potatoes, and banana pudding.
Yes, I was in my kitchen cooking a meal so big, none of my family should be hungry for the next three days. :)

Nonetheless, while cooking, I got rushed with gift bags from the girls and my husband. Although I did get some new DIY stuff and a new dress. Nothing captured my heart more than my girls got me from the secondhand thrift store.

Usually, I am very picky when it comes to buying things thrifted because I focus on style, price, and quality. It takes time and a little bit of know-how when it comes to picking out gently used thrift store items. But my family did well buying me things that look amazing, and nothing was over 3 dollars.

The first thing that caught my eye was a vintage pair of ole' school Candies shoes. They were made with lace and had a slight white color with the cross buckles that gave the look of a victorian shoe from the past. Honestly, there were no signs of damage, very little wear and tear at all on them. So, I think these sandals were a score. If you look closely at the picture, the original signature Candies is etched in the shoes. This victorian style is hard to find because it is a style that was made in the late 1970s. What a great shoe for 3 whole bucks.

My next Mother's Day gift was two new to me secondhand vinyl records. Over the last few years, I've been collecting old music that makes me feel good and happy.

One of my favorite things to do when I go inside any used market is to rummage through all the new and old school records. So, it is no surprise that my family did the same thing while looking for my Mother's Day gifts. Oh, and I am happy about their packs of getting me Al Jarreau and Donna Summers.

My next 3 dollar gift was a pair of sturdy silver shades that were also 3 dollars. The style and detail of the shape and fit are on point. The quality feels amazing, and there were no dents and scratches.
SideNote: When I buy my shades secondhand, I look for bends, and scratches on the glass. If any of those things I named were apparent, then the glasses would not have been worth 50 cents. #greatpick

This next item was a wild card for me, but after trying it on, I fell in love. Can you believe my daughters found one turquoise ring and bracelet each were also 3 dollars as well? I will definitely be styling these two items with a few of my previous jewelry pieces.

I also got a crystal and gold big bracelet, in which I will be pairing with a set of black stretch bracelets. I think these three items were good picks because of the quality, weight, and there were no signs of wear.

My last items was a beautiful necklace that had an engagement that read I am blessed. I am loving the crown look and the details of pearl running down the gold chain. If I had to choose the shoes and the necklace is my favorite.

In conclusion: Mother's Day was different this year, but honestly, I loved this year more than any year before. It was just a simple day of me enjoying food, laughs, and opening used gifts. I think this is the first year where I wasn't stressed out planning a stay-cation or out of town vacation. Ha! I was joking with Rico about how much money we've saved this year. I think I may keep this tradition going for many years to come. I enjoyed cooking at home on Mother's Day and doing absolutely nothing at all. I also learned another valuable lesson today about being grateful for the small things that happen in little bits. I realize life is so much more than spending money and being overly busy.  I want more intentional living and doing stuff together as a family. Ha! the year 2020 has slowed life down for so many of us. But, I plan to end this year on a positive note by any means necessary.

Lastly, I must admit I love all my used secondhand items better than things I've previously bought at full price from the mall.

Which item did you like? Which one would you wear?
Share below what you did for someone or someone else? It's always good to hear of good things happening for other people.
P.S. I guess the picks my family has picked for me makes them professional thrift snoopers now. LOL:)

Well, thanks for stopping by Happy Mother's Day

  3. That's actually pretty cool with getting gifts that are secondhand and it goes to show you don't have to spend a lot money just to show how much you love them. I'm glad you had a wonderful mother's day 😊
