This Is Not What I Expected In My First Junk Jars!

A Little Thrift Snooping In Progress:)
For my first class project, I had the craziest idea that would involve making bracelets with junk. Yep, the idea was easy to come up with but finding the jewelry junk deemed to be a lot of work. Being the self-proclaimed thrifter, I think I am. I knew to go to the thrift store and snooping I would find some junk to re-create.
I searched high and low for a few junk jars like the one I saw when visiting Shreveport, Louisiana, last year. And for those of you who are wondering what junk jars are. I have a quick answer because it is a method to the fun when a person can grasp the concept. Ok, junk jars are jars that people fill with things that they no longer want. And they sell them for a quick profit at mainly thrift stores. Yep, I know that sounds weird, but if you love vintage and surprises, collecting junk jars are ideal for grabbing. Now, the prize inside can vary from mix-matched puzzles to catching simple gold earrings. And the prices on the jars can vary as well from $1 to $1,000 buckaroos. So, yes, it is a gamble when buying one for yourself. Some people just love the adrenaline of opening a junk jar up and seeing what's inside. But, most people I know buy them to possible re-make something of value. I am buying mine to show my students you can make something out of nothing. So, come closer as I pour out all the treasures from my first jar.
Oh, each one of my jars was only $3, so I am not expecting too many fancy things.

WOW! I must admit I may have hit the jackpot with this one. After pouring everything out, I noticed a lot of random beads just started to fall all on my floor. After I got over all those little beads rolling, I was feeling anxious about what came out next. The first item I grabbed was a heavy antique bracelet that has the most beautiful blue-ish stones.

Then I found a piece that may have come off of a necklace. It is not my style at all, but I can maybe make something out of it.

Then I picked through and found a random pearl and silver chain bracelet. It was nothing to sassy, but I can definitely re-vamp this one also.
So, now it is time to open up my second jar.

Oh my goodness, the second jar of junk was really nothing but junk. I could do something with the pieces I uncovered, but it is not my style.

This jar was filled with mix-matched buttons and broken pieces that really made no sense at all.

There were lots of discolored chains and all types of Christmas pendants. So, far I am not impressed with this junk jar one bit.

Not to mention the outdated necklace styles that were already turning green

I did stumble across a thick chain necklace, but that style is a little outdated for my liking. So, I am not sure if I will keep this one pictured above.

There were a massive amount of holiday things that just made no sense for a jewelry junk jar. So, I will be tossing all of those little pieces out.

In conclusion: I was only able to salvage about three items from my junk jars. And honestly, for the price I paid for them, I think that was pretty stinking good. Also, it was about the experience of finding something new and creative that I could teach my DIY students. So, do you think I found some pretty neat jewelry pieces? Let me know in the comments below.

Also, stay tuned to see if I make something out of my junk.
