Reminder Of Time!

Reminder Of Time
A Back In The Day Reminder Of Time!
Hey Yall, so I thought I would jump onto the blog and share some real country babbling. Or perhaps share my day as a reminder of time. Yesterday I was thinking to my self: Boy 2020 is really showing out this year. As I prepare to work from home and homeschool my 8-year-old for the next few weeks. I found I spent more time self complaining than getting stuff done. But, as I was maneuvering clients to fit my new schedule. I was quickly reminded of a particular time in life when things were much harder, but people made it through the tough times.
Reminder Of Time
Do anybody remember chickens and buying fresh eggs from a local farm? This week I took my family to a local farm in the city. And my girls thought it was the cutest thing they have ever see. Until I started telling them about life back in the day. Before Wal-Mart came alone in the early '60s, most people depended on locals to sell whatever they had food-wise. Fresh eggs from the coop was a usual way of living. I remember getting milk delivered to our door from Borden's milk truck. Honestly, I thought things were hard then, but families all over the world made it.
Do You Remember?

Reminder Of Time
Yes, I do. I also remember when Yogurt had no flavors at all. It was bitter and mainly used in the form of butter for cooking and baking cakes. Oh, we have come a long way in life. Because now my children only want to drink flavored yogurts. And they do not think paying $6 at froyo is expensive. WOW! Times have changed, but we made it.

Reminder Of Time
Do you remember when everything was made from scratch? Well, here is your reminder of a time when hard times never came up in our home. Because my family just rolled with the punches of life. Sometimes, I really wonder how our parents made life so good with so little, as an adult with kids of my own. I do realize I spoil them a wee bit. And I know most of you guys reading do as well with your kiddos. But, when I was a child, I knew nothing about McDonald's and Drive-Thru chicken.

Because my grandmother and my mother cooked every single day morning, noon, and night. And those were the best homemade meals a kid could ever ask for. I can not count a time we even bought pizza because we made it at home. Honestly, I need to call my family and apologize for complaining because home cooking is what kept our families together. Yep, my mom cooked all week for us while going to school and holding down a job. And on Sundays, the whole family came along, and we ate big at granny's house.
Do you remember having chicken and dumplings from scratch, butter biscuits, and cornbread? I wish I could go back in time where I had to pick and clean greens while granny told old real-life stories. Those were hard times to me as a kid, but to my mom, aunt, and granny, it was life, and they rarely complained to us as the children. Actually, they never told us anything, I must confess I eavesdropped quite a bit like a little lad. My being nosey may have contributed to my fear of life when I was younger.
Reminder Of Time
Do you remember when granny floors squeaked during the night? I remember my granny had a house so big I couldn't sneak out if I wanted. Because that lady could be asleep but hear everything, even a feather gently falling on the floor.
Reminder Of Time

But, Ya'll those were good ole' time in my book. I didn't like it then, but I can appreciate where I am now.
But, you know life back then was going forward even most families did not have a lot. I guess there was no room for complaining or blaming a lame system. Back in the day, we had to work together to make things happen. And when I look back, it was some good that came out of not having 2000 tech way of living.

Ha! we did just fine without having a whole lotta stuff. Do You Remember?

Do you remember when you could buy 10 pieces of candy for a dollar or a cola for 25 cents?
Reminder Of Time

Well, in my day, my favorite drink was the RC cola because it was intense, and I could belch really loud after drinking one. But Yall a case of drinks is almost 10 bucks if I want the good stuff. Sometimes I can find three cases for 2 dollars. It just depends on the store and the location. But, my oh my look at how times have changed over the years. Just the other day, I took the hubs took us to a small community carnival, and one coke was $3.50. Now try buying that for a family of 6. It seems minor now, but back in the day, 6 bottles of coke would have cost only $1.50. My kids laugh at me now because they think their dad and I are a walking bank. LOL, they really believe paying 2 dollars for 6 drinks is cheap. Ha! I can't wait until they start spending their own money. I will personally be at their homes for meals and allowance as pay my back. LOL, I am not kidding at all.

In conclusion: Although 2020 has come through like a wrecking ball, things are still moving. I have learned so much more about life and what matters the most. I have even started baking things from scratch, such as pop tarts. I have learned so many new things, and I am happy to share them with you guys. I was once a drive-thru mom who catered to a life that was easy and wasteful. Now, I am loving cooking and finding other things fun to do with my family. It all makes so much more sense now as 2020 rolls on by. Things have changed in the world, and we all must adjust to this new normal. But I know if our ancestors made it through with barely anything, I know I can make it with having everything within my reach.

I never thought I would live in a world where wearing masks was mandatory, and standing 6 feet would mean no new friends. But, I am adjusting just as the elders did when things were really tough. I guess I said all of that to say. There is no need to complain if we remember a time when things were not the same. But people made it. So, there you have it, A Back In The Day Reminder Of Time!
